Family RV Trip - Departure Day

Our home for the next 10 days!
Today is the day!

After months of planning, preparation, worrying, (a little arguing), and excited conversation, today is the day we start our first RV trip!

We have everything staged in three places in the house and we are using every available inch in the Tahoe to move our essentials from the house to the  RV rental rendezvous point.

Here are our main concerns:

  • Did we pack too much?
  • Where will we fit all our clothes in the camper?
  • Is it a camper or an RV?
  • Will we make it to the first campground before dark?
  • Do we have enough snacks?
Seriously though, this is our first family trip in an RV, and as well as we prepared through reading and advice from friends, we are all filled with - let's call it excitement!  I'm sure our nervous energy will subside a bit once we are on the road.  We are traveling with a teenager and our special needs almost-10-year-old, so we have some anxiety around keeping as close to our normal life schedule as possible, but I am quite confident in their resilience and ability to be flexible.  Besides, this is vacation, so we can adjust as needed without consequence.

We are ready, we are packed (mostly) and my mantra for this trip is "ride the wave" which means we will happily float on top of whatever the trip's current brings our way.  If we forget something or need something we will go without or find it along the way.  If it rains, we will play in puddles, if we have meltdowns, we will have patience with each other, and we will soak up every minute of the journey, giving thanks for being able to take this trip.

Sarah and I hope to upload a note or video each day so stay tuned for updates.

The first drive from Virginia to Cape May, NJ was a success but not at all what we expected.  We had planned our route well, our stops, and ...
